Profile of PMIAI Universitas Paramadina – ICAS Jakarta

Pengantar

Islamic College for Advanced Studies (ICAS) awalnya didirikan di London, Inggris, Tahun 1999. ( http://www.islamic-college.ac.uk/) Kemudian berkembang dengan membuka cabang di beberapa negara. ICAS mendirikan cabang di Jakarta pada tahun 2002. Hingga kini, ICAS telah mengembangkan pendidikan dan penelitian pemikiran Islam dengan pendekatan rasional, ilmiah dan filosofis, yang fokus pada kajian filsafat dan Tasawuf. Bekerjasama dengan Universitas Paramadina, ICAS membuka dua program magister (S2), yaitu program studi Filsafat Islam (Islamic Philosophy) dan Tasawuf (Islamic mysticism). ICAS berupaya menyediakan pendidikan terpadu mengenai Islam dengan mempertajam pemikiran dan peradaban Islam berbasis Filsafat Islam dan Tasawuf, yang kemudian diperkuat dengan komparasi pemikiran kontemporer. Pembukaan kedua program di atas, berangkat dari realitas belum adanya lembaga di Indonesia yang secara spesifik mencurahkan fokus perhatiannya pada bidang Ilmu Filsafat Islam dan Tasawuf, yang merupakan pilar dasar keilmuan, peradaban dan tradisi Islam. Hal ini berangkat dari kesadaran bahwa Islam memiliki khazanah yang sangat tidak terbatas dalam kedua bidang tersebut, yang sayangnya belum tergali secara baik, khususnya di Indonesia. Karena itu mutlak dibutuhkan adanya Institusi pendidikan yang dapat menjadikan dirinya sebagai pusat bagi penelitian dan pengembangan Filsafat Islam dan Tasawuf. Indonesia memiliki potensi untuk itu, mengingat kekayaan khazanah tradisional lokal yang ada, serta potensi calon-calon pemikir Islam yang tidak terbatas. Dengan potensi yang ada, memberikan optimisme bahwa dengan sebuah kesungguhan, institusi ini akan menjadi salah satu institusi Pendidikan Islam yang dapat memberikan kontribusi terhadap peradaban di dunia Islam secara internasional dalam masa sepuluh tahun ke depan. Visi ini diperkuat dengan dukungan pemerintah (BAN-PT Depdiknas) dalam bentuk pemberian Akreditasi B pada tahun 2011 untuk kedua program studi tersebut.

Dialog merupakan pendekatan kunci dalam seluruh program ICAS. Guna memberi nilai tambah dalam membangun sebuah dialog yang seimbang antara peradaban Islam dan peradaban lainnya di dunia, ICAS berupaya untuk membina dialog antara filsafat dan agama, filsafat dan sains, agama dan sains, filsafat dantasawuf, atau tasawuf dan fiqh/syari’ah. ICAS meyakini 2 bahwa pendekatan yang rasional, filosofis dan irfani dalam beragama, khususnya dalam kajian ke-Islaman akan sangat bermanfaat untuk keperluan tersebut.

The primary vision of The Islamic College is to promote religious values through Islamic Philosophy and Mysticism. Based on that aim The Islamic College contiously develops and increases quality of educational system by improving methodology of teaching and learning, researches, collecting reference of books and also intensively carrying out some qualified academic activities like international or national seminars, short-course, call-pappers and so on.

 The Islamic College Jakarta strives to make a good academic atmoshere focusing on educating potential researchers, planning for designing doctoral program, widely spreading academic network and intesively adding some recommended books.

Therefore, I pray to Allah for giving us strength and enough positive energy tp accomplish all the programs at The Islamic College Jakarta, insya Allah.

Introduction

The Islamic College Jakarta is structurely led by a director and assisted by some Deputies of Director who are responsible for organizing the institute. The system of the Islamic College development is somewhat based on what laid down in the Ministry of National Education. In addtion, the cultivation of the institute is referred to both Al-Qur’an and Al-Hadits and 1945 Constitution

Vision

Tracking back to the core understanding on Islamic teachings asrahmatan lil’alamin, in spite of some distortion in Islamic text, which is confined it as a private sphere of religious exprience. This dull interpretation led Moslems toward the track of marginalization process causing the low performance of archievement since they are only able to adopt ideas without any creativity and genuinely logocal exercises. Hence, The Islamic College Jakarta believes the by integrating the holy text and the role of roasoning in religious understanding, Moslems can revive their civilition by establishing scientific tradition, which at the same time takes part in contributing to global civilization.

Mission

Establishing an international institution of tertiary learning, providing facilities for advanced studies in Islamic schools of thought, discussing Islam in the modern world, bringing the Indonesian and other South-East Asia students into international discourses on Islam, and giving them a global perspective. Hence, the establisment of The Islamic College in Jakarta is an embodiment of the stated mission by focusing in facilitating Islamic teachings within concise education programs.

History

Islamic College for Advantage Studies (ICAS) which later changed its name to The Islamic College Jakarta (IC) believes that contemporary world is facing many crucial and complicated problems, which need a profound thinking and thorough attention from Islamic world.

ICAS held philosophical and rational education filled with religious wisdom, especially Islamic Studies. It is very beneficial to achieve the goal cited above.

ICAS set up it London in 1999 and opened a branch in Jakarta in 2003. Representative from ICAS London, Dr. Ali Movaheddi and outstanding Islamic scholar from Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Nurcholish Madjid signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 29 Juli 2002. The MOU was legalized by Dirjen Binbaga (Islamic Organization Building from Ministry of Religious Affair of Republic of Indonesia) and confirmed by State Secretary of Republic of Indonesia. Later in 2009, ICAS changed its name to The Islamic College with a new organizational structure.

In the first year of establishing in 2003, ICAS Jakarta opened Master program for Islamic Philosophy and a year forward in 2004, it opened Master program of Islamic Mysticism. Then, in 2005 ICAS Jakarta opened Bachelor program with special program in Islamic Studies.

Masters Program The Islamic College Jakarta is a formal education. The Islamic College Masters Program is not only for academics, but also for practitioners of various disciplines. It is intended to give the widest opportunity to program participants in an effort to improve and sharpen their depth of knowledge.

The program is designed to provide extensive opportunities for students to learn independently supported with supervision from the faculty mentor. Case studies and research are an integral part of this program. There is no exaggeration that the graduate program is one of the spearhead Faculty in the effort to build the real university.
